Collier leaders back legislation making it easier for fire districts to consolidate

It's been talked about for years, and now legislation making its way through the state Legislature could make it easier for special districts across the state to merge. Florida Senate Bill 192 and a companion House bill would allow two or more contiguous independent special districts, such as independent fire districts, to merge without a special act of the Legislature.
